How To Make A Big Jenga Set

Howdy, I'k Amy and I beloved to build things and share plans at Hertoolbelt! My kids love to play the traditional Jenga. I thought information technology would be fun to brand a giant sized version for the yard with a 'throw 'n go' pick (I'thousand calling it Curl 'north Get). The roll 'n go version puts a fun twist on the game, and I kept it elementary for my young kids. Each side of the dice (die) is a different colour and there is a corresponding set of blocks in each color. They will scroll and whatever color it lands on, they have to motility a block of that color. You can totally play the traditional way too.

The traditional Jenga pieces are 1.5 cm thick, two.5 cm wide and 7.5 cm long, making the jumbo jenga pieces couldn't be simpler using two×iii boards. A 'two×three' board that yous purchase is actually 1.5 inches thick, 2.5 inches wide and we tin cut them 7.5 inches long…perfect!

I too fabricated a carrying crate that doubles equally the Colossal Jenga stand, it has enough room for the 54 jumbo jenga pieces and die. This is totally optional to make.

How to Make a DIY Colossal Jenga Yard Game

Materials

five – 2″ 10 3″ x 8′ boards (actually measure one 1/two″ 10 ii 1/2″ x 8′)
1 – 1″ x 8″ ten 10′ board – optional carrying crate (actually measure 3/iv″ x 7 1/iv″ x 10′)
chip slice of 4″ x 4″ mail – optional dice (really mensurate 3 1/ii″ x iii 1/two″)
sandpaper
26 – 1 i/4″ wood screws – optional for carrying crate
forest glue – optional for carrying crate
ii – drawer handles – optional for carrying crate
paint/stain – optional
paint castor – optional

Cut List

54 – 1 1/2″ 10 two 1/two″ ten 7 1/two″ jenga block pieces cut from the ii×3 boards
Optional carrying crate
- iv – three/four″ x 7 1/4″ x nineteen 3/4″
- 2 – 3/4″ 10 7 one/4″ ten thirteen″
Optional dice
- 1 – iii 1/two″ x 3 1/2″ ten 3 1/two″ from a iv×4 post

Making the Colossal Jenga pieces

Cutting the 2×3 boards into 7 one/ii″ long pieces, you should be able to get 12 – vii 1/2″ pieces from each ii×3 board. I used a miter saw and prepare a stop block on the left side so I didn't have to mensurate every piece.

Cut 54 jumbo jenga pieces. (Sometimes those kids toys can exist useful :-) ).

Sand each block smooth. I used a chugalug sander for this part to make information technology faster, a regular hand sander will piece of work too.

Pigment or stain the jumbo jenga blocks if desired.

I used latex paint (ultra pure white, the real teal, pimento, paradise sky and cherries jubile). One issue with latex is that it dries in a solar day, merely doesn't cure for a few weeks. Then the blocks want to stick to each other. Y'all can coat them with a clear glaze or wait until the paint has fully cured. (If you lot go out them natural wood y'all won't have this result.)

I had my helpers paint 9 colossal jenga blocks in each color. One ready of 9 blocks I left natural wood.

Making the Conveying Crate

Cut the four pieces of one×8 to exist 19 three/4″ long. Use a countersink bit (or a regular drill bit about the size of the screw shank) and drill holes for the screws as shown in the sketch. The holes should be nigh 3/8″ away from the side and evenly spaced.

Add a bead of wood glue forth one of the sides of a 'long side' lath. Use one 1/4″ minimum to secure a 'peak/bottom' board to the 'long side' board as shown.

Add a bead of wood glue to 2 sides of the 'short side' boards and attach it to the 'long side' and 'acme/bottom' boards with 1 1/4″ screws. Attach another 'top/bottom' lath correct by the other 'top/bottom' lath and secure information technology to the 'short side' board with ane i/iv″ screws.

Attach the last 'long side' lath with wood glue and 1 i/four″ screws to the 'short side' and 'superlative/lesser' boards. If you desire to add handles, add one to each side. I painted my handles teal.

Remove any excess clasp out mucilage. Afterwards the glue has dried, sand the carrying crate smooth, especially the top/lesser where the jumbo jenga will be stacked to play the game.

Making the Dice

Cut a slice of 4×four to a cube, 3 1/two″ x 3 1/ii″ 10 3 1/2″. Paint each of the half dozen sides a different colour (one side will stay natural woods.) Later on the paint has dried, lightly sand the edges to distress as desired.

At present you're ready to curl 'n go and play jumbo jenga for hours of fun!
